What Window Cleaning Brush Should I Use?

The brush is an important part of pure water window cleaning as this is the product that actually cleans the glass, choosing the correct tool for the job will make you more productive, increase revenue and get the spot free finish you require.

Brush Shape:

There are two main shapes to choose from when it comes to water fed pole brushes;

Rectangular brush’s are great for commercial and industrial window cleaning as all the bristles are forward facing which is ideal for cleaning large areas of glass, they are also lightweight, making them a firm favourite when cleaning high levels where weight is to be kept to a minimum.

Sill brush’s take the same face shape as a rectangular brush but have further bristles running across the bottom face of the brush exiting at a 45 degree angle, these lower bristles help create the perfect angle to clean the window sills where rectangular brushes would sometimes struggle, making them a firm favourite for domestic window cleaning where window sills are present.

Brush Size:

The most common size brush purchased and used are the 10” (26cm) brushes, this size is suited for 99% of windows, small enough for those tight spots down the sides of conservatories or getting through juliette balconies but not to big for those small top opening windows you find on domestic properties.

14” (35cm) brushes are more commonly used in commercial and industrial cleaning where larger areas of glass is present, they also have their advantages when cleaning at greater heights as their width helps stabilize the pole keeping the brush flat on the glass.

Water Jets:

We offer 3 styles of water jets for our brush range. We find each operator has their preferred style of water jet. Selecting the right style of jet can make a big difference when it comes to cleaning different glass types.

Pencil jets are the original method of water exiting at either side of the brush through 2mm brass jets,

Fan jets exit the brush the same way from either side however rather than the water exiting through 2mm fine holes it exits like a fan spreading across the length of the brush.

The most modern and innovative method of water exiting the brush is through a rinse bar this is a bar that runs internally across the centre of the brush from end to end with fine holes.

The benefit with a rinse bar is in the name, you get a far better rinse across the glass giving the user a feeling of having the accuracy of a pencil jet but the spread across the brush that a fan jet will achieve.

Using an internal rinse bar will help to speed up the rinsing of a window without using more water compared to pencil jets.

We offer 9 or 11 jet internal rinse bars, these help to spread the water over a wider area on the glass and also help to reduce gaps between the projected streams of water. This helps to get better covereage across the glass while using the same amount of water.

Bristle Type:

You will hear the words ‘dual trim‘ used a lot when looking at water fed pole brushes, this terminology is where there is more than one bristle type in the brush at different lengths.

All Xline water fed pole window cleaning brushes brushes have dual trimmed bristles.

Flocked or Monofilament is referring directly to the ends of the bristle itself.

A flocked bristle feels a lot softer to the touch, this is down to having split ends at the end of each bristle increasing mass, this makes the bristle not so sharply edged and as jumpy on the glass surface. Perfect for cleaning leaded windows as the sharp finish of a monofilament bristle can sometimes feel a little aggressive and in some cases can cause the leaded patterns to come away from the glass, a flocked bristle is also used for cleaning solar panels where as a monofilament bristle could potentially cause damage caused from scratching. A flocked bristle also has its advantages when cleaning with chemicals as the increased surface area caused by the flocking of the bristle retains the chemical for longer.

A monofilament bristle is clean cut with no split ends giving the feeling that you get a deeper clean with a lot less effort.

Dupont bristle is a registered branded product that is used in some of our premium brushes, Dupont is also a monofilament bristle its nylon filament increases elasticity and reduces wear making it a firm favourite and our best selling brush. Dupont is visually different from any other bristle due to its clear like white colour state.
